This is an 1895 drawing of the Bayou. Note Brent's Mill jutting out into the Bay. The Bayou was for the most part uninhabited with the execption of an area around the bridge on "Military Road" which later became known as Barrancas Avenue. This map shows the bayou as it was before development and dredging changed the shoreline many areas of the bayou.
