Maritime Art of Pensacola and the Gulf Coast

An Image of Pensacola's Fishing Industry
by Ms. Jo Bailey

This mural is painted on the east inside wall in Oscar's Restaurant. It depicts a scene from the area around Joe Patti's Seafood Company located South of Main Street. This area is home to several fish houses and many fishing boats. The catches are sold directly to the public as well as wholesaled to many local and distant restaurants. Many visitors to Pensacola take back home a "packed to travel" load of fish or shrimp for their friends and family to enjoy. I took about 10 pounds of shrimp in a "throw-away" cooler (which they provide) to friends in Toronto, Canada some years back. The security lady at the airport about had a heart attack when she saw all those beady little eye-balls staring back at her through the x-ray machine. I'm sure that they're quite used to it by now!
